I recently visited the Merchants Blue Moon in Ocean Village, Southampton and had the most delicious meal in ages.  The restaurant sits right next to the harbour and while the decor could do with a bit of an update (please get some nice paintings, the current ones are so depressing), the staff were friendly and the portion sizes were very generous.

Along with your main course, they bring you a huge bowl of perfectly cooked vegetables (and not the boring kind) and lots (and lots) of potatoes.  There's no pressure to leave your table for the next guest and when the sun is shining, with the doors and window open, you can just sit there enjoying the breeze and some lovely wine.
